Honorable Mention The Ferry Zephyr Rivers and oceans are Earth's blood, mountains her spine, the land her bones. She breathes in and out with the moon’s pull. Ley lines are meridians that carry her life force. Man greedily consumes the forests of her lungs, pollutes her sweet breath, pours concrete on her heart as it throbs beneath our feet. She senses through her progeny: seed and branch, insect, bird and beast. Creations from her elements, proportioned as land and sea, each a part of her consciousness. Man is naked without earth. Look past the moon, no atmosphere or sea, - dry as bone dust. Watch the sun rise on earth, a nipple on the round of her breast. Alive a membrane pulses, gleams the brightest blue wreathed in great drifts of cloud. See the majesty of the Himalayas. The vast red dunes of the Sahara. The azure ocean of the Pacific. When night falls, see pin-prick city lights buckshot peppered on land where lush green forests once stood. Our beautiful ferry on the sea of existence.
